Abstract: This paper analyzes the configuration of the scientific field of educational evaluation in Brazil during the 1980s, identifying the agents that constituted it and their theoretical contributions on the evaluation theme. A bibliographic and documental research was carried out, combined with bibliometric studies and content analysis. The results show the participation of 19 Brazilian researchersin the field development process, whose theoretical contributions suggest two main evaluation approaches: one that is grounded mainly on the measurement of results and another that primarily advocates the participation in evaluation processes.
