Abstract: | This work aimed at determining the histological characteristics of skin healing and its relation to macrophacytic infiltrate in mice submitted to low power GaAs laser therapy (λ 904 nm). Seventy four Swiss mice were submitted to a surgical skin wound in the thoracoldorsal region and divided into two distinct groups: Laser Group, submitted to low power GaAs laser therapy (λ 904 nm) and Control Group, maintained without treatment during all the experimental period. Eight animals of each group were sacrificed at distinct times: day 1, 3, 7 and 14 after the injury was done and the treatment was established. The skin wounds were collected and submitted to histological processing for histomorphometric analysis, collagen fibers and elastic fibers. The macrophage per histological field was determined by means of the immunohistochemestry technique using the antibody CD68 (KP1; Zymed). A smaller inflammatory response was observed after 1, 7 and 14 days in animals submitted to laser therapy. However, the deposit of elastic fibers was found more precociously and the organization of collagen fibers at 14 days presented itself more accentuated. A difference regarding the presence of macrophages in the studied groups was not observed. Therefore, it may be said that low power GaAs therapeutic laser is shown to be efficient in the inflammatory process and anticipation of skin healing process in mice, however, without apparent relation to macrophacytic infiltration. |
