Abstract: | Plant breeding is a science that contributes to the adaptation and increased production of crops that meet the new agricultural scenario. The development of high yield rice cultivars with high yields has strong social appeal, as it will be difficult to meet the growing demand for food by using only the irrigated production system. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the performance of strains belonging to the cultivation and use value (VCU) assays of the UFLA- MelhorArroz upland rice breeding program. Thirty two strains from the breeding program and four controls were evaluated, BRS Esmeralda, BRSMG Caçula, BRSMG Caravera and BRSMG Lightning, in 14 environments including different locations and harvests. The experiments were conducted in a randomized block design with three replications and the evaluated character, grain yield (kg.ha-1). Data were analyzed using the mixed model approach. The variance components were estimated by Restricted Maximum Likelihood (REML), and the genotypic values predicted by the best non-biased linear predictor (BLUP) from the combined analysis using the SELEGEN REML / BLUP software. The analyzed strains maintained average yields that reach twice the national average, demonstrating the potential of the genotypes that make up the cultivation and use value tests. The strains are highly productive and have wide selection potential to obtain new cultivars. |
