Abstract: This work proposes discussions about linguistic variation in Portuguese language classes in basic education, emphasizing the linguistic heterogeneity of Brazil. Thus, the assumptions of Dialectology and the letters that make up the Outline of a linguistic atlas of Minas Gerais - EALMG (RIBEIRO et al., 1977) are used, with a view to elaborating didactic activities that lead students and teachers to reflect on the dialectal diversity of Brazilian Portuguese, especially in Minas Gerais. To achieve this goal, it was decided to select some lexical language cards from the semantic field Folguedos infantis, present in the referred atlas. Another contribution offered by this study is the discussion raised about the relevance of linguistic atlases as safe sources for the knowledge and description of the plurality of Brazilian speeches, in this case, the speaking from Minas Gerais. In addition, the work emphazises the contributions of a Dialectology focused on teaching (Educational Dialectology) that is allied to the advances in the area of Dialectology and Geolinguistics, which contributes to the knowledge of diatopic variation in the teaching of Portuguese Language. Therefore, the Educational Dialectology enables teachers and students to access the studies on dialectical heterogeneities developed within academic research.
