Abstract: There are several test methodologies and techniques capable of characterizing the materials. However, most of these techniques present problems such as the cost of equipment and tests. In this context, alternatives arise in relation to these problems, among which are the non-destructive testing techniques, highlighting the technique of particle image velocimetry (PIV). The objective of this research was to evaluate the use of the PIV technique to measure deformations in specimens submitted to static flexion tests, and for comparison purposes, three dial indicators were also used. The PIV technique measures the position of an analysis region in an object from images before and after a loading session. The tests were applied to plywood panels. With the application of the “Student t” test with a significance level of 1%, it was found that the mean values from the PIV technique and the dial indicator are statistically equal. It was concluded that the PIV technique was able to provide values of modulus of elasticity with the same precision as the conventionally used methods.
