Resumo: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the frequency of water application and the use of subsurface drip irrigation on the commercial tomato crop. The experiment was implemented in Ingaí (MG) using a completely randomized experimental design in a 2x2 factorial scheme with two irrigation techniques (surface drip and subsurface drip) and two irrigation frequencies (continuous and pulsed irrigation) with six replications. Pulse irrigation consisted of dividing the daily irrigation blade six times with equal intervals of rest and water application. The matric potential and production variables were evaluated. As a result: The soil matric potential showed similar behavior as a function of depth 0.10; 0.30 and 0.50m. The commercial yield (20.78 kg.m3), total yield (21 kg.m-3), mean fruit mass (113 g) and mean number of fruits per plant (26) did not differ for use of surface irrigation, subsurface, or continuous pulses and their interactions. No significant statistical differences were observed in applying irrigation depth of 151 continuously, in 6 pulses per irrigation, superficial or subsurface. The use of continuous irrigation and pulse irrigation did not cause statistical quantitative differences for the tomato table production variables.
