Abstract: Social distancing, caused by covid 19 pandemy, had as one of its consequences, the closure of universities and exchange of presential classes to online lectures. This study has the objective of screening depression, anxiety and stress symptons and characterize the ways of coping mechanisms, social media usage levels, and life satisfaction of the academic community (teachers, students, and campus employees) of Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA) during the presential suspended activities. It is a transverse study, based on an on-line questionnaire aimed at the targeted population by social media, institutional network and private mailing system. The questionnaire was composed by university- related questions, questions to evaluate depression, anxiety and stress symptons (DASS 21); questions about ways of coping with problems (EMEP), satisfaction with life scale (SLWS), and social media engagement questionnaire (QEMS). The sample comprised 587 subjects, between 18 and 70 years old. Among the results, campus employees and teachers were less affected on mental health than students. Health sciences students showed lesser levels of stress anxiety and depression compared to other areas. Correlactions between problem focused, emotion focused and social support focus coping mechanisms were also found. this study contributed to the better understanding of the pandemy repercussion on mental health of the academic population.
