Abstract: Trainingteachers requiresconsideringcultural, political, social, ethical, moral, and artistic aspects. Thus, this work aims to identify in the film “Inherit the Wind” (1999) the discussions thatbiology teacher training environments can raise. The film portrays the trial of Scopes, a true story that took place in the United States in 1925. The methodsare qualitative and,for data analysis, it was used Content Analysis and more specific categorization. A priori categories were constructed and the scenes that fit into this mental construction were grouped. The categories were “Freedom of Expression”, consisting of five scenes; “Science and Society”, by four; “Science and Progress” by four and “Science and Religion” by one. It was possible to see the importance of raising issues that cut across these axes in biology teacher training environments, as these are themes that eventually arise during classes, and it is necessary to have a repertoire so that these discussions are made in a contextualized and critical way, enabling the training of teachers and, consequent, of critical students. In this way, it is possible to highlight the potential of cinema to open gaps that made it possible to raise such discussions.
