Abstract: In 2016, the Ministry of Education launched a project called the Challenge of Professional and Technological Education (hereinafter DEPT) that encourages citizens to actively participate, through an online platform, in the decision-making process. This condition reinforces the need for higher education institutions and, in particular, for Federal Institutes in the southeast region of Brazil, to interact with society. The present work had as The objective of this research is to analyze if the FI's of the Southeast region of Brazil make use of social network tools to promote social participation. To this end, posts, likes, reactions, comments and shares on each official page of the federal institutes in the aforementioned region were analyzed. There has been an increase in the engagement of the Southeast region since the launch of the DEPT launch, noting that the federal institutes started to use the social network Facebook to increase their interaction with society.
