Abstract: Grasses (Poaceae) are wide distributed in biomes such as the Cerrado and in the transitional ecosystems such as campo rupestre, being one of the families responsible for the plant diversity of these environments. These plants present important characteristics for survival in these environments; thus, it is necessary to spread the existing knowledge and broaden perspectives for future studies to contribute to the conservation of these species and the environments in which they live. Grasses have a C4 metabolism for CO2 fixation and low light availability can be a stressful factor. Considering the growth characteristics of grasses (clumps) that promote self-shading and the existence of fluctuations in the light regime in environments such as rupestrian fields, it is necessary to understand the acclimation strategies of C4 species to these conditions. In view of the above, the dissertation was divided into two chapters, one with updates of Brazilian research and highlighting the importance of grasses, and the second with new perspectives on two grasses of rupestrian fields, which are poorly described in the literature.
