Abstract: The labor market is one of the most affected by the volatility of economies, expanding in the ascension moments and contracting in the recession ones. Into that context, the youth situation is even more dramatic, being the age range most affected by those cycles of expansion and depression. Otherwise, labor qualification comes as a response to the growing competitiveness among the workers, and the offer of those training in Brazil, for a long time attached to the State, it’s more and more related to the “Third Sector”. Thus, the current paper aims to evaluate, through a logit regression model, the probability of participation in the professional training program offered by Trilha Jovem Iguassu (sustained by an entity of the Third Sector) to the youth in the city of Foz do Iguaçu, state of Paraná, Brazil. Our goal is to promote the academic discussions around the theme, as well as the decisions taken by policy makers related both to the analyzed project and other similar programs. Among the results, stand out the greater probability of entry of young, white, male candidates, whose families are beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família program and don’t speak English; and smaller probability to youths who are 16 years old. The results point to the need of discussion about the criteria adopted in the selection process of the program, in order to examine if the main goals of the project are being achieved.
