Abstract: Cysticercosis is a worldwide disease that affects herds and people who live in places with low hygienic and sanitary condition and untreated sewage. It is considered endemic in developing countries, leading carcass condemnation, depreciation, and retention in slaughterhouses. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the bovine cysticercosis prevalence in abattoirs with state inspection in Espírito Santo state from 2007 to 2010. The present study demonstrated that the average prevalence was 3.97 %, with lower values in 2007 (3.18%) and highest in 2009 (4.67%). In addition, was observed greater predilection cysts alive for heart (57.47%) than for the head (42.53%), similarly regarding calcified cysts the predilection for heart was greater than head (56.18%) higher than in head (43.82%). The high cysticercosis prevalence indicates that the disease is endemic in the Espirito Santo State, which demonstrates the need for for effective preventive actions parasite cycle control.
