Abstract

Reproduction in fishes is regulated by external environmental factors that trigger internal mechanisms into action of. The final event of the reproductive cycle, the release of gametes can be controlled either by the maintenance of fish in appropriate environment as by changes in internal regulatory factors. The objective of this review is to address the main aspects related to the handling of the reproductive cycle in the species of native freshwater fish with potential for aquaculture.
