Abstract: Nociception is defined as a sensory mechanism that allows animals to perceive and avoid potential tissue damage, being of great importance for survival. Despite the innumerable possibilities for the treatment of pain, in many cases analgesics are not used in pain events, especially when the affected species is not expressed in a conventional manner. The growing increase in the use of fish as an experimental model in medical research, as well as its current importance in aquatic productive chains, highlights the need for discussion about the well-being of the species. The present study aimed to develop a retrospective study on the perception of pain and its treatment in fish.
