Resumo: The study of the dual career phenomenon has been widely explored in the international literature and has recently proved fruitful for conducting research in the Brazilian context. Based on the conception of a family in which the couple develops their careers while maintaining a family life, studies have focused on organizational and objective aspects. This dissertation explores subjective and individual aspects of dual careers based on a career concept encompassing objective and subjective dimensions and understands it as a dynamic, unstable trajectory contextualized in time and space. The study aimed to understand the experience of the dual carrier from the report of professor couples of Brazilian public universities using the life story method, the data collection technique of semi-structured interviews, the thematic content analysis technique, and under a qualitative and socio-constructionist perspective. We sought to answer the following question: How is dual career experienced among public university professors? The categories discussed and analyzed were the couples' history, domestic routine, professional routine, career, and family planning. The impact of the pandemic on the couple's routine and gender were discussed as emerging categories. Finally, we established dual career characteristics among professors of federal universities and significant advances in the field of research, highlighting the importance and impact of using qualitative methodologies such as life history and the socio-constructionist perspective to understand the construction of the dual career reality.
