Resumo: Geographical Indications (GIs) aim to identify products with a seal and provide more information about the product, production methods, location of producers, who they are, where they live, how they live, and present the qualities and characteristics that differentiate a given product from others. others on the market, providing information to the consumer on all stages of the product until it reaches their hands. With a focus on cocoa cultivation in the municipality of Urucurituba-AM, this dissertation aimed to analyze whether the local productive arrangement (APL) of cocoa in the municipality of Urucurituba-AM has the potential to obtain a Geographical Indication registration (IG). To this end, the research: sought to describe and characterize the local productive arrangement of cocoa in Urucurituba, identify the actors of the APL and the history of cocoa in the municipality, understand the process of cultivation, processing, and commercialization of cocoa produced in the region and identify the tools of government support that encourage producers to cultivate cocoa. The Diagnosis for the Recognition of Potential Brazilian Geographical Indication, proposed by the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service SEBRAE (2021) served as the basis for this survey. The research adopted a qualitative approach, exploratory, descriptive study. Data collection occurred from March to July 2023, through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentary research. Data analyses were presented in nine parts, following the criteria available in the SEBRAE diagnosis. The results achieved show that cocoa from Urucurituba, in the State of Amazonas, has the potential to obtain registration of a Geographical Indication with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), taking into account the traditional intergenerational cultivation model and the peculiarities of the soil that the municipality has.
