Abstract: The analysis of spatial point patterns generally focuses on characterizing the first- and second-order properties of the stochastic process that generated the points. However, for a more rigorous analysis, in some situations, it is necessary to analyze higher order characteristics. This work aims to present a study on the T-function as a method to characterize the third-order property in spatial point patterns. This characterization can be useful to differentiate point processes that exhibit the same first- and second-order properties, but may exhibit different behaviors in the third-order. Furthermore, the T function can be used to test the independence between events based on the simultaneous location of three events. The results show that the T-function can be useful to characterize the spatial distribution of trees of native species in the Amazon Rain Forest.
