Resumo: This article aims to present briefly some principles that underlie teaching in distance education. The media increasingly sophisticated and interactive, the evolution and development of Information Technologies and Communication as well as the emergence of virtual learning environments are not sufficient to produce knowledge for themselves. In this complex context that the figure of the "teacher collective", the multiple teaching and mediation training. Freire's assumptions, the dialogical and the establishment of challenges that take the student to further discussion should underpin the practice of a teacher who works in this type of education. By doing the mediation, the teacher humanizes virtual interactions and helps the student to establish more complex relationships between information and knowledge. In this sense, mediate also means interacting with the student, with the groups and with the object to be known. With appropriate interventions, the teacher contributes to building a more reflective learner on knowledge. The pedagogical mediation encourages the student to connect theory and practice and application of knowledge in real situations.
