Abstract: Ecotourism is an activity in constant growth that seeks well-preserved natural environments for its development. Accordingly, the National Parks - PARNAS - present themselves as suitable alternatives, since Brazilian law allows and encourages ecotourism activity in this category of UC. The aim of this work was to present a history of ecotourism in the Brazilian PARNAS, showing the chains of existing services. The methodology used was, first, a literature review on the subject and then questionnaires were administered to 57 heads of PARNAS to assess their perception on the implementation of ecotourism according to the specific legislation. The main conclusions were: the surrounding communities are often forgotten in the process of granting and outsourcing services in PARNAS ecotourism, and the participation of these communities is important in reducing social inequalities and the provision of quality services; the productive chain of ecotourism to the PARNAS, if well planned, allows a more efficient use of natural resources and hence on the conservation and preservation of scenic beauty and biological diversity.
