Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the progress of a fragment of semideciduous forest on the pasture, testing the hypothesis that exist a vegetation gradient towards the inside-edge. Were sampled three parallel transects and distant 10m apart, arranged perpendicular to the edge of the forest. In each transect were established systematically, 20 plots of 2 x 2m, spaced 2.5m apart, totaling 60 plots. In each plot were sampled individuals with height ≥ 0.5m, DBH to a 5.0cm. The multivariate test was applied, Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA), to verify the existence of gradients. Were sampled 525 tree and shrub species, 59 species and 37 families. The Shannon diversity (H') were equal 3.12. DCA1 analysis indicated a substitution median in composition and abundance of species. DCA2 analysis showed high eigenvalues for the three axes of ordination (0.8915, 0.8417 and 0.64015). Species diversity (H ') showed a negative and significant in the sense inside to edge (s =-0.8015, p <0.05). The density of species showed the same pattern of diversity, with a negative correlation from the inside to edge (s=-0.7953, p <0.05). There is a gradient from inside to the edge, indicating that the proximity of fragment influences the direction of colonization of species.
