Abstract: The number of plants per plot is extremely important for accurate results. The objective of this work to find the optimal size for experiments of coffee seedling cultivar Rubi MG 1192. The experiment was installed at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology, South of Minas Gerais, campus Machado. The plants were arranged in 14 rows with 14 plants in each row were discarded the first and last row and the first and last line, which had surround function. Were used, so that 144 seedlings individually characterized the basic units (BU). Assessments were made when the plants reached the final sixth pair of leaves, and the response variables were collected. Each of the 144 UB 14 was used to simulate different sizes of plots to 1UB 72UB was not considered a form of plots. For each of these groups was calculated and the coefficient of variation. It was found that the optimum plot size useful for experiments with coffee seedlings of the cultivar Rubi MG 1192 varies from 2 to 8 plants per plot, according to the study variable.
