Abstract: The production of crops of high demand combined with efficient manufacturing technologies such as proper management of environmental resources, soil and water, through irrigation, is frequent topic of scientific research to strengthen the agricultural economic sector. The aim of this study was to evaluate the spatial variation of soil moisture and bulk density with Vigna unguiculata greenhouse under five different levels of matric potential (-15, -35, -55, -75 and -95 kPa ) and make inferences to root growth of culture in order to contribute to a more efficient management of water for the crop. The relationship between tension levels, soil moisture, bulk density and capacity of the soil to be explored by the root system, was evidenced in the upper cultivated soil near the surface. Analyzing the soil profile in depth, was found lower soil moisture conditions of greater water deficit thereafter, thus correlating with higher water extraction by plants in the deeper layers.
