Abstract: Local food is emerging as a growing phenomenon all around the world. Based on actor network theory (ANT) and agency theory, this study was conducted on a farmer market in São João del-Rei, south of Minas Gerais. The aim of the study was to describe the configuration of this local food market indicating the main framings and overflowings in the market evolution. The methodological procedures encompassed interviews and non-participant observation, and the data was analysed by content analysis. Results has shown that, in despite of multiple attempts of framings established to restrict the market boundaries in order to promote local products from Campo das Vertentes, an emergent configuration emerged, which is characterized by the diversification of products and producers from outside the region.
