Abstract: | Environmental conditions during some growing seasons and regions in Brazil reduce potato tuber yield and quality and also favor infection and spread out of diseases such as early blight. The objective of this study was to identify potato clones that associated high levels of resistance to early blight with heat stress tolerance. Three experiments were conducted, one during the winter season in a simple 14 x 14 lattice design, and the other two during the raining season, in a 9 x 9 lattice design with three replications. Alternaria solani was infected in one of these experiments while the other was kept free from the pathogen. Besides ANOVA, the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) and selection indices were estimated for different environmental conditions. Results indicated no association between early blight resistance and heat tolerance. Three clones were identified showing heat tolerance and also with high levels of resistance to early blight |
