Abstract: This research analyses technical efficiency and productivity gains of agricultural activity in South American countries in 2001/2002 and 2011/2012 crops. It is a research with quantitative approach using secondary data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the use of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The results show that most South American countries present technical efficiency in agricultural holding, and a reduction in the number of countries that had relative inefficiency from a crop to another. However, only five of the twelve countries assessed were successful in overall productivity gain over time.
