Abstract: The objective in this work was to evaluate the effect of the plastic bag waste use on the physical and mechanical properties of MDP panels from sugarcane bagasse. A pre-test was carried out to determine the best pressing temperature, using an experimental design composed of four treatments. Four different temperatures were evaluated (160, 180, 200 and 220ºC) in panels with 20% substitution of sugarcane bagasse for plastic bags waste. Subsequently, the experimental design consisted of five treatments, and five percentages of sugarcane bagasse substitution were evaluated by the plastic bag waste (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) at the best pressing temperature found. The sugarcane bagasse particles were evaluated for their anatomical, chemical and physical characteristics and the plastic bag particles were evaluated for their physical characteristics. The panels were produced with a nominal density of 0.70 g/cm³, 40:60 face/crumb ratio, 12% face adhesive and 8% urea-formaldehyde adhesive to the crumb, 8 minute pressing time, and pressure of 4 MPa. For the pressing temperature evaluation, the panels produced at the temperature 220 °C presented the best results for the physico-mechanical properties. For the evaluation of plastic bag percentage, it is feasible the panels production with the substitution of up to 15% of sugarcane bagasse particles for plastic bag waste. The addition of plastic bag waste promoted a significant improvement of the MDP panels insulation of sugarcane bagasse.
