Resumo: The aim of this study was to evaluate physical and chemical properties of the wood of Corymbia citriodora and Eucalyptus urograndis grown in the south of Piauí State. Therefore, there were felled three trees of each species, with age around 48 months, located in a commercial planting of the city of Curimatá-PI. It was determined the basic density and retratibility (through radial contractions, tangential, volumetric and anisotropic factor) in different positions along the stem. Aside, the chemical composition of the wood of each species, was studied based on the content of wood extractive, lignin, holocelulose and ashes. The wood of Corymbia citriodora showed average basic density, while Eucalyptus urograndis was considered low density. Regarding the anisotropic factor, both species showed values considered high, being above 2.0%. For the lignin analysis, both species had the potential to be used for energy purposes. Considering total holocellulose and extractives, it was found that Eucalyptus urograndis wood has can be used in the manufacture of particle boards as well as paper and pulp, respectively.
