Abstract: This study aimed to determine the potential use of five Eucalyptus species, cultivated in a frost occurrence region, for lumber production. 18 years old trees of Eucalyptus benthamii, E. deanei, E. dorrigoensis, E. dunnii and E. smithii, were sectioned in logs of 2,10 m in length, divided into diametric classes of (i) 20, 1 to 25,0 cm; (ii) 25,1 to 30,0 cm and (iii) greater than 30,0 cm. Before sawing, the dimensions, taper and top splits index were determined. Before and after drying, the dimensions and splits of the tables were measured and the lumber yield was calculated. The results indicated that the species showed good log quality. The highest yields were obtained by E. dunnii, however, the other species also presented satisfactory yields, indicating that these can be used in the production of lumber in frost occurrence region.
