Abstract: The objectives of this research were to characterize the technical, administrative, economic, and financial conditions of broiler farming in the Santo Antônio do Monte County, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The data were getting from 38 (thirty eight) enterviews. The broiler farming was stratified in: up to 5.000 birds; from 5.001 to 10.000 birds; from 10.001 to 20.000 birds; and up 20.000 birds. The first characteristics were relate to decision-maker. The principal aspects were: (a) some years of schooling; (b) small enterprises and small broiler farming; (c) dairy cattle farming is the principal economic enterprise; (d) cooperative system; (e) using farm credit and extension service; (f) using not many administrative activities for business. Considering to production systems, some aspects were observed: (a) the chickens are grown on floor; (b) the density varies from 10 to 14 birds per square weter; (c) it is necessary to by ration, concentrate, and corn grain; (d) growing less than 5 lots per year; (e) the food distribution is manual; (f) prophylactic treatments are used bu t with a bad prevention to New Castle, CRD and Coccidiose disease; (g) weight of slanghter, nutritional conversion and mortality rate are technical coefficients different from recommended coefficients; (h) the majority of production is made by wholesale. The data show us that broiler farming up to 20.000 birds can not support the market price, about Cr$ 46,63. The variable cost represents 97,3% from total cost. From variable costs, rations represent 65,24% and daily chickens represent 15,21%. The fixed cost represents 2,68% from total cost of production. The regression analysis show us economies of scale, but any conclusions drawn from this analysis should be treated with caut ion. The break even point was found superior to be superior than the real production possibilities of the broiler farming. Varying costs and income, it was observed that break-even point decrease more with the reduction of cost than increase in income.
