Resumo: This work evaluated the physical and mechanical attributes of reconstructed soils from Córrego do Feijão mine, located in the municipality of Brumadinho, Minas Gerais, Brazil, comparing them with native vegetation (Semideciduous Atlantic Forest). Characteristics and physical properties such as texture, particle density, soil bulk density, porosity and aggregate stability in water were evaluated, as well as the determination of the precompression stress for the quantification of the load bearing capacity. The reconstructed soils had a sandy-loamy texture, while the soils under native vegetation had a clayey texture. The texture of the built soils affected physical properties such as soil bulk density, total porosity, macroporosity, microporosity and geometric mean diameter of aggregates. Soil bulk density and particle density were significantly different among the soil layers, higher values were found in reconstructed soils and lower values under native vegetation. Total porosity and geometric mean diameter were significantly higher in soils under native vegetation compared to reconstructed soils. Reconstructed soils presented higher load bearing capacity, with precompression pressure values varying from 313.2 kPa to 361.5 kPa at the - 1500 kPa water potential. In general, the load bearing capacity models of reconstructed soils obtained higher precompression values in relation to soils under native vegetation.
