Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of some agronomic traits of soybean cultivars as a function of different plant densities and the contribution of these traits to grain yield. The experimental design was the complete randomized blocks, arranged in a subdivided plots scheme, with three replications. The plots consisted of four population densities (300, 400, 500 and 600 thousand plants per hectare), and the subplots were composed of six cultivars (BMX Força RR, CD 250 RR, FMT 08 - 60.346/1, NA 5909 RR, TMG 7161 RR and V - TOP RR) cultivated in Lavras and Inconfidentes, both in Minas Gerais. The height of plants, the insertion of the first legume, the harvest index, the number of pods per plant, the number of grains per pod and the yield of the grains were determined at the time of harvest. With the obtained data the matrices of phenotypic correlation were elaborated. The correlations were divided into direct and indirect effects of the independent variables (productivity components and agronomic characteristics) on the dependent variable (grain yield). The number of vegetables per plant and the number of grains per legume are the components that present the greatest direct effects on the yield of soybeans, so that they can be used in the indirect selection to increase the grain yield at the time of production soybean.
