Abstract: | The Instituto de Acolhimento e Recuperação Eterna Misericórdia (IAREM), in Lavras-MG, is a nonprofit civil association that provides shelter to about 60 men in precarious social situations. The objective was to evaluate the water supply situation of the IAREM and propose improvements to increase and guarantee the supply of drinking water, in order to reduce the risk of scarcity and dissemination of waterborne diseases. A rainwater harvesting and utilization system was designed for the IAREM, with the rainwater accumulation reservoir sized by the Rippl method and the simulation method. The components of the rainwater harvesting and utilization system were estimated at: 385 m² for coverage area, 626.78 L min ⁻¹ for design flow, 125 mm for minimum gutter diameter, 75 mm for minimum commercial diameter for vertical conductors, 8 vertical conductors, 9.06 m for spacing between vertical conduits, 2 self-cleaning tanks, 192 L, 49 L volume for each tank, ¾ "self-cleaning tank output stop, 8 selfcleaning filters and 2 rainwater storage tanks. The design of the water storage tank by the Rippl method leads to a saving of 59.5%, leading to a technically and economically viable volume of 85.22 m³. By the daishing method, there is a guarantee of 33% for the system of capture and use of rainwater and a volumetric voltage of 28.43%, setting the volume of the reservoir in 30 m³. |
