Resumo: This paper discusses the importance of environmental education in understanding the environment in teacher education. This is an experience report that has as main objective to analyze and discuss the contributions of environmental education in the initial teacher training, through a project carried out with students of the third year of high school in a state school in the municipality of Lavras, MG during the activity of the supervised stage, of the course of Biological Sciences - Licenciatura, of the Federal University of Lavras. The project aimed at discussing how certain diseases relate to social issues. The stages of production - extraction of natural resources, production in the factories, consumption and disposal of garbage - were discussed with the students, and from them social, economic and political issues were discussed, as well as the diseases resulting from each one. Subsequently the students in groups built parodies that addressed the subjects present in the discussions. Issues such as the occupation of urban environments and emerging diseases, production at factories and precarious working conditions, consumer-related media and the lack of basic sanitation in various regions were addressed, which is an individual, collective responsibility and the which demands action from the public power, relating these issues to the local reality. The parodies demonstrated the need for continuous work with environmental education in schools. The work has brought several important reflections for the formation of teachers aiming at an education with the objective of training subjects whose insertion in society is critical and transformative.
