Resumo: Knowledge about nutrition can positively impact eating habits, contributing to correct supply of nutrients and energy intake. The aim of this study was evaluating the knowledge about basic nutrition and nutrition applied to sports in a group of university students from a university in the South of Minas Gerais. Knowledge about basic nutrition and sport nutrition was evaluated using a questionnaire with objective questions related to the areas described above, besides also was evaluated the knowledge about a distribution of food groups in the food pyramid. The questionnaire was administered to undergraduate students of Nutrition courses (beginners and advanced - 7th, 8th and 9th periods) and to freshmen of Administration, Letters and Physical Education. Knowledge about basic nutrition is greater than nutrition applied to sports. Seniors in Nutrition obtained high percentages of basic nutrition and applied to the sport compared to beginners of nutrition, and other courses evaluated. The percentage of correctness in the group of the foods belonging in food pyramid for seniors and beginners in nutrition, and others courses were: level 1 (98%, 60%, and 35%), Level 2 (81%, 32% and 20%), level 2 (81%, 32% and 20%). level 3 (86%, 50% and 45%) and level 4 (97%, 73% and 47%). In this way, it was observed that the seniors group obtained a higher percentage of correctness followed of the beginners group. As expected, the other courses evaluated were not very successful because they were courses outside the scope area.
