Abstract: Objective: evaluate the effects of the application of nutrition education activities on anthropometric variables and dietary habits of elderly. Materials and Methods: the study population consisted of 32 elderly with practice physical activities registered in the third age group of the Department of Leisure Sport and Tourism (SELT) Lavras-MG. Dietary assessment and anthropometric were performed at the beginning and end of the study. Anthropometric assessment was made by measuring the weight, height, body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC).The assessment of dietary intake was determined using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ).The educational actions were applied weekly for two months. Results: the percentage of elderly overweight decreased (53.1% to 37.5%).The individuals’ percentage that showed values of waist circumference≥ 88 cm (women) and ≥ 102 cm (men) decreased (53.1% to 37.6%).The use of salt addition reduced (13% to 6%).The daily and/or weekly intake like: soda, candies and pasta reduced. Dairy products, beans, beef and chicken are the main sources of protein consumed by the elderly. The daily intake of fruits and vegetables increased during the study. The reading practice of food labeling increased from 41% to 72%.Conclusion: The nutritional education actions have positively affected the dietary and anthropometric profile of the elderly. Educational actions are effective tools to improve the nutritional status and dietary habits of elderly.
