Abstract: The natural products are increasingly present in agriculture in the form of powders and extracts, since they do not persist in the environment and have low toxicity to humans and the insect pollinators. The objectives of this research were evaluated of the chemical composition and bioactivity of the essential oil from leaves Ageratum conyzoides L., on the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda. The essential oil was obtained by stream distillation, using the modified Clevenger apparatus, and the chemical composition was analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectroscopy GC-MS and GC. There is major component of essential oil of A. conyzoides was the precoceno (87.0%). In ingestion test with leaves of maize treated, the essential oil presented insecticidal activity, causing death of efficient control, over 70%, from the concentration of 0.5%.
