| Abstract: | In this paper, we offer an analysis of instances like Eduardo cortou o cabelo (Eduardo cut the hair = Eduardo got a haircut) in BP. Firstly, we offer an analysis of lexical-semantic aspects of the construction, testing its (un) compatibility with Brazilian Portuguese verbs (CIRÍACO, 2011). Secondly, acknowledging that a lexical-semantic analysis is not sufficient to describe the construction`s meaning, we present the favorable semantic-pragmatic contexts for instantiating the construction. Finally, to explain the observed facts, we propose a representation for the construction adopting the Construction Grammar theory (GOLDBERG, 1995, 2006). |
