Resumo: Flower preservatives keep cut flower quality, although different responses depend on formulations, species and variety. This work aimed to evaluate the effect of different flower preservatives on ‘Tineke’, ‘Osiana’, ‘Texas’ and‘ Grand Gala’ varieties during storage in a cold chamber at 1°C, 98% relative humidity and at room temperature. Priortreatment with Hydraflor-100® and maintenance in dry condition or in solution containing Crystal Clear®, Original Floralife®, Flower® and sodium hypochlorite were investigated. The characteristics durability and floral opening were evaluated. All studied varieties showed no durability at dry storage with occurrence of wilting one day after harvest. During storage in cold chamber and at room temperature of ‘Grand Gala’ roses, the products Flower® and sodium hypochlorite provided the greatest and smallest flower opening respectively. ‘Tineke’ roses showed reduced durability in all treatments compared with ‘Texas’ and ‘Osiana’ varieties during the maintenance in the cold chamber and at room temperature. Flower opening, which is not desirable during storage, was more evident for ‘Osiana’ and ‘Texas’ varieties when kept in Crystal Clear® and Original Floralife®, respectively. ‘Grand Gala’ roses maintained the commercial standard for 10 days , the other varieties remained with this quality for nine days and no difference was found among the products used in the maintenance solution or water.
