Resumo: With a qualitative approach and using the autobiographical narrative, this work has the central objective of analyzing and reflecting my personal process of acquisition of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). Considering the specificity of Libras and relevance to this study, the status of belonging to Libras is also addressed, since discourses continue to be found stating that its “owners” are only non-listeners (QUADROS, 2019). In order to analyze this process, I use pieces of my life story that have been produced between March and July 2018, as an assignment to a subject in which I was enrolled in the Master’s course in Education at Universidade Federal de Lavras. Thus, it was possible to show that, according to the ecological interaction proposal defined by Paiva (2010), in which languages are considered human productions and are indirectly in cultural artifacts and in daily life, the school institution, formal education and, even the teacher, at a certain point, no longer has the central place – or else the only one, of the form and the educational source, above all, regarding the acquisition and learning of languages. Hence, bearing no aim to exhaust the subject, the result of this work points towards the need to understand that during Libras’ learning and acquisition process, learners are situated in contexts different from the school and the university and have different personal, professional and social wants and needs to learn Libras, which give way to the emergence of new subjectivities and relationships of belonging established with the language.
