Abstract: | The concern to promote people's well-being through housing and buildings and the concern with sustainability, leads to research and search, both by industry and professionals in the area and even consumers, for new types of materials to be applied in civil engineering constructions, with the objective of obtaining new properties such as better thermal and acoustic insulation associated with the issue of better economic viability, allowing to serve the final consumer with more options and quality. In this context, the objective of this work was to study alternative materials for applications as internal partitions in buildings. Drywall, commonly used in internal civil constructions, cement-wood panels, Oriented Strand Board (OSB) and honeycomb panels were analyzed as partitions. These materials were analyzed for their physical properties (water absorption and thickness swelling in two and twenty-four hours of immersion, porosity and density); mechanical properties (rupture module and elasticity module in flexion, compression and janka hardness), combustibility, thermal, acoustic, microstructural properties and also regarding cost analysis. Among the types of alternative materials evaluated as an option to replace drywall panels, OSB panels were the ones that obtained the best performance for applications as internal partitions, presenting the best performance in terms of physical, mechanical and thermal insulation properties, and achieving similar acoustic performance. drywall panels. However, they obtained the lowest performance in terms of fire resistance, and still the highest cost among the different types of internal partitions evaluated. Despite this, the OSB and drywall panels met all the standard criteria for applications for internal partitions, thus being able to be used for internal partitions of homes and commercial points. It is up to the consumer to decide what types of characteristics he wants for his construction and to take into account the most appropriate cost-benefit ratio. |
