Detecção em cromatografia gasosa rápida e cromatografia gasosa bidimensional abrangente

Abstract

The fast gas chromatography and the comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography generate peaks much narrower than in conventional gas chromatography. In these techniques, the peak width (at baseline) commonly observed ranges from 1 s to 50 ms, reaching values as small as units of milliseconds. The flame ionization detector and the time of flight mass spectrometer do not present limitation to detect such narrow peaks; however, other detectors present some limitations. Peak distortion, peak tailing and the low quality of the peak mass spectra are the main problems observed. In the present paper it will be presented the basic characteristics of the detectors for gas chromatography and their use to detect narrow peaks.
