Abstract: The present research evaluated 20 beginning female athletes of artistic gymnastics and swimming, with age between 8 to 10, from Lavras. Those girls were evaluated in the physical capacities: strength, general coordination, speed, flexibility and endurance through 6 tests. After the protocols, the results were compared between both sports with the goal of identify the differences of the practitioners and to show up the most complete modality. The results showed that the physical capacities flexibility, general coordination and arm strength was better in gymnastic girls then in the swimmers, in the speed test it was no significant difference, and in the endurance test the swimmers got the best results.
