Resumo: The objective of this work was to analyze the effect of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) and carp pituitary extract (CPE), combined or not, in the induction of spawning in curimba. Three hormone treatments were carried out with two doses, in an interval of 12 h; treatment A (0.5 mg/kg of CPE and 5.0 mg/kg of CPE), treatment B (0.5 mg/kg of CPE and 5.0 mg/kg CPE + 500 IU/kg of eCG) and treatment C (0.5 mg/kg of CPE and 500 IU/kg eCG). Oocyte samples were collected, five and eight hours after the second hormone application, to analyze the position of the germinative vesicle and oocyte diameters. Weight of fish spawning and the gonadossomatic index were evaluated. There was no significant difference between the weight of spawning of female fish induced by the treatments A and B (p>0.05). Evaluation of oocyte diameters showed no significant difference among the treatments five hours (p>0.05), whereas for the eight hours, after the second hormone application, treatments B and C were different from the treatment A (p<0.05). The evaluation of the germinative vesicle position showed that the treatments A and B were different from treatment C (p < 0.05). Results of this work showed that the eCG was not efficient when used alone on the second hormone application in the induction of spawning in curimba.
