Abstract: The present work aimed to verify the traditional knowledge, the land use and management offloodplain ecosystems belonging to smallholders from the São José community, in the Careiro daVárzea city, AM-Brazil. The research was based on a case study and the adopted procedureswere: bibliography review, questionnaire, structured interviews and field survey notation.The maincultivated agricultural products in the community were: lettuce (Lactuca sativa), chicory (Eryngiumfoetidum), kale (Brassica oleracea var. Acefhala), coriander (Coriandrum sativum), cucumber(Cucumis sativus) and green onion (Allium schoenoprasum), which guarantees most of thefamilies income. The community was settled in a typical floodplain area, composed of smallfarmers, users of traditional agroforestry systems which are constituted by the followingsubsystems: lake, forest and cultivated land which economically support the locality.
