Resumo: Given the peculiarities of teaching career in higher education, in Brazil, and the varied impacts in terms of occupational stress and burnout syndrome, this essay aims to reflect on these constructs, propose an integrative model and indicate possibilities for research with teachers on this level of education. The theoretical reflects on both constructs and on such peculiarities of the teaching profession in higher education. For future research, a integrative model was proposed, as well a schedule that includes methodological aspects (aiming depth understanding of the issues and their interrelations, as well as extension findings and validation of the proposed model) and thematic aspects (thematic connections with other constructs adherent to field of organizational behavior). The fulfillment of this agenda seeks to contribute both conceptual/academically as a practical/professionally, providing support to people management e within higher education institutions.
