Abstract: The evaluation of research and products under development is a strategic area for companies. On the other hand, there is no consolidated agenda for this type of assessment at universities as it exists in the private sector. Therefore, based on the innovation theories, this work aims to contribute with the evaluative practice research in universities, adopting the Biospeckle laser technique (BSL) as the object of analysis. The general objective of this thesis is to evaluate the potential of Biospeckle Laser (BSL) to generate innovative technologies from the identification and evaluation of Critical Success Factors (CSF) in the development of new products (DNP) in universities. The methodology used includes a systematic review of the literature to understand the BSL technique, patent analysis, and CSF selection used as new dimensions in an adaptation of the innovation radar, which shall, in turn, be adopted to evaluate the research. Data collection was conducted using interviews, documentary sources, and bibliographic reviews to evaluate the BSL technique and the research in other areas of knowledge. The results demonstrate that all 16 dimensions of innovation require new innovative processes to a lesser or greater extent. Thus, there is a real need to develop and adopt new research assessment tools in universities. The CSF considered most relevant to the BSL technique are: D1. 3 “Evolution of patents”; D4. 1 “Activities for generating and selecting ideas”; and D4. 2 “Prototype construction activities”. Among the evaluations carried out in research in different areas of knowledge in Brazil, dimension D3. 2 “Integration between governments, universities, and companies” had the lowest average value for innovation. The D2 dimensions. 1 “Government interference” and D4. 1 “Activities for generating and selecting ideas” also presented low innovation. This dissertation’s primary contribution is to present a set of innovation dimensions to evaluate the BSL technique and research in universities.
