Abstract: This paper presents a description of the designatives for the questions 50 and 51 of the Alib Project Semantic-Lexical Questionnaire, whose caput refers to the concept of edible cassava(macaxeira cassava or aipim cassava) and wild cassava(or simply cassava) respectively. Wild cassava tuber is not edible without first undergoing processing due to the high content of hydrocyanic acid (HCN). The aim of the study is to discuss the diatopic distribution of designatives in data from the Northern Region of Brazil, referring to 24 municipalities, making up the speech of 96 informants whose maximum education is elementary school. Through graphs and language maps, data are presented in order to highlight the lexical norm of this great Brazilian region for the issues at hand, with the predominance of the item macaxeira(macaxeira cassava) for question 50 and mandioca (cassava) for question 51. However, Tocantins state shows data that differ from the lexical norm of most federative units in the North Region.
