Abstract: This work aimed at a new employability for the peels of the species Myracrodruon urundeuva, which is popularly known as aroeira, producing tannic adhesives from the aroeira peels and comparing them with the synthetic phenol formaldehyde adhesive. The tannins were extracted with 2.4% sodium hydroxide and in aqueous solution. Basic parameters of the adhesives were determined, such as: viscosity, solids content, pH and gel time. The physical and mechanical properties of the panels were evaluated, in addition to the combustibility test, to evaluate the combustion resistance of the panels. The results show that the high viscosity of tannic adhesives is associated with the presence of non-tannic compounds and the gel time proved the reactivity of tannins with formaldehyde and that despite the solids content being lower, the mechanical properties are in accordance with the literature. All treatments reached the minimum value of 1.0 MPa required by the standard EN 314-2 (1993) for the dry shear test. It is concluded that the adhesives based on mastic tannin showed great potential for use, being an alternative to formaldehyde phenol.
