Resumo: The forests, in addition to rich biodiversity, store carbon from the atmosphere in biomass above and below ground. The above-ground biomass (AGB) is essential for the quantification of carbon. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the carbon stock between the years of 2015 and 2017, as well as the contribution of each species and to compare the variation in the variable of interest by means of two different methodologies regarding the tillering of individuals. The study area is located in a forest remnant in the municipality of Lavras, Minas Gerais state. It was considered two methodologies for the carbon stock quantification, in which the first considers each tiller as an individual and the second in which it was considered the transformation of diameters into geometric diameter. The AGB and carbon stock for the fragment were estimated. Finally, it analyzed the Annual Periodic Carbon Increase. In total, there was a 1.34% decrease in the amount of carbon in the two years of study. It was observed that the method considering each bifurcation as a tree obtained a difference of 1.25% more when compared to the common way of treating a bifurcated tree in analyzes of native vegetation. The species Copaifera langsdorffii Desf. and Xylopia brasiliensis Spreng. corresponded, on average, 18.57% and 13.63% of the total carbon percentage, representing great importance to the fragment.
