Resumo: Modern cosmology is a science that aims to understand the past, present, and possible future of the large-scale structure of the universe. The present work aimed to research and reflect on the teaching of this science in the context of basic Brazilian education, more specifically, in high school years. Assessing the importance of the theme and its inclusion in science classes, as well as researching its historical, conceptual and educational foundations, in order to build a model of the current Brazilian educational scenario against modern cosmology, constituted the first part of the work. Once the scenario was built, it was proposed to prepare a textbook on the subject, aimed especially at high school teachers, which even included practical experiments related to the subject of each chapter, which was a differential in relation to most materials already prepared for this purpose. Thus, through the development of the book on modern cosmology for high school, an objective proposal for the insertion of cosmology to be considered by the Brazilian scientific education community is achieved.
